Description
The Neocardenasia Herzogiana Cactus is a large columnar variety of cacti which branch into the shape of a candelabra. This perennial evergreen succulent can reach heights of 20 feet in it's native habitat. The stems are well defined, greyish green in color and have 6-7 ribs with cream coloured areoles housing 3-5 stout central spines. Also known as the Baseball Bat Cactus it has the longest spines known to exist among any cacti. Pinkish -white flowers between are funnel shaped and are followed by edible fruit. Perfect for Cacti enthusiasts. Living along the Atlantic coast of central Florida, I was surprised that cactus would be available here.....my thought was always of the desert highlands....
I planted several of these cactus a year and half ago when they were only about maybe a foot and half tall. I couldn't believe how fast they grew and now one spire is over six feet tall and survived the hurricanes of last year. To my delight I noticed yesterday 3 very large buds on one of the shorter spires and this morning it was in full bloom and serving breakfast.
