Artist's Description
During the Vietnam war there were billions of sandbags filled to be used to protect against mortar and rocket attacks throughout Vietnam. In many situations in the rear areas of military installations such as the 101st Airborne Division, locals were screened and hired to fill sand bags. The dress was simple and straw hats were common to protect against the beating sun. This photograph was taken with a Pentax 35mm camera in 1966 and the slide was digitally cleaned up.
About Christopher James
I have been exposed to the art world since a child roaming the halls of Art Galleries throughout Europe with my artist/architect father. During my military days in Vietnam I became exposed to photography by doing black and white aerial photography and processing it in my own dark room and taking color slides as well. Not until the age of digital cameras did I reintroduce myself to photography and raising two wonderfully talented sons who were actors and musicians and was able to help them along the way taking photographs for their respective portfolios (several are in my portfolio here).
